Room data sheets are organized overviews of the requirements for specific types of rooms. They are typically created during the discussion phase (or architectural programming in the US) of designing and can help clarify the requirements of the client for each type of space. They can be alternate data stream used to develop specifications that help contractors and design teams know what is expected of each space and how to ensure that any proposed solution meets the needs of the client.
Architects and other members of the design teams, like engineers and interior designers create rooms data sheets. They are a work-in-progress development and may be an ‘in-progress’ document until a client has signed off on the final architectural plan. The data contained in the room data sheets can then be synchronized with the Revit model through a process known as backfilling. Utilizing this method of verification can ensure that the room data accurately reflects the requirements in the final documentation. It can also highlight any discrepancies between the two.
The Room Data Sheets component of BriefBuilder makes it easy to create rooms data sheets and use them to synchronize with the Revit model. It includes a standard template set and pre-programmed select lists for the electrical and structural disciplines, as well as HVAC and plumbing. It also allows for the addition of thumbnail-sized illustrations and graphics for each discipline.
The program is easy to use and requires no special setup. It can load configurations that have been saved, which cuts down on the time spent setting up. It also allows attributes like scale, browser organization, and naming to be specified for each view that is created.
